The government has approved Rs 93.56 crore to strengthen vulnerable embankments along NH-154A in Himachal Pradesh, particularly on the Chakki–Banikhet–Chamba–Bharmour stretch in Chamba district.
The move comes in response to recurring monsoon-related damage, with the project designed to address erosion, landslides, and commuter safety. Repairs will be carried out in phases, with long-term maintenance planned through 2032. Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh noted that the approval from the Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways followed a detailed proposal submitted by the state, adding that the project will be closely monitored to prevent delays and cost overruns.
The work is targeted to achieve 30% progress by 2025–26, with full completion expected in 2026–27, providing durable protection and improving highway resilience.
