Officials from Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) recently held crucial discussions to advance the proposed extension of the Mass Rapid Transport System (MRTS) from Bommasandra in Bengaluru to Hosur. This strategic extension, spanning approximately 23 kilometers, will bridge the two states, with 11 kilometers in Tamil Nadu and 12 kilometers in Karnataka, and will include 12 metro stations and a depot along the route.
The extension is a key infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity between Bengaluru and Hosur, enhancing commuting efficiency in the region. CMRL is currently finalizing a Detailed Feasibility Study Report (DFR) for the project, a task assigned by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and endorsed by the Tamil Nadu government. The completion of this report marks a significant step forward in the project’s planning phase.
On Tuesday, M.A. Siddique, Managing Director of CMRL, met with M. Maheshwar Rao, Managing Director of BMRCL, at the BMRCL headquarters to review the project’s key components. The meeting, which included discussions with senior officials such as T. Archunan, Director (Projects) and R.K. Reddy, Director (Project Planning) from BMRCL, focused on the coordination required to integrate the metro systems of the two states effectively.
In addition to the inter-state discussions, the CMRL team, accompanied by consultants from Balaji Railroad Systems Private Limited JV and Habog Consultants Private Limited, visited Hosur to engage with local authorities. The team held meetings with Krishnagiri Collector K.M. Sarayu, Hosur Corporation Commissioner H.S. Srikanth, and Hosur Sub-Collector Priyanka to discuss the local impact and logistical aspects of the project.
The MRTS extension to Hosur represents a significant collaboration between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, promising to enhance regional connectivity and drive economic growth. With the DFR nearing completion, the project is moving closer to realization, reflecting a concerted effort by both states to improve public transport infrastructure.
