Mussoorie's Grand Makeover: The ₹6,100 Crore Elevated Road

Mussoorie, often called the 'Queen of the Hills', is set to become significantly more accessible with the construction of a ₹6,100 crore elevated road as part of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway project.

The 26-kilometre stretch passing through Dehradun aims to ease urban traffic congestion and will enable travelers to reach Mussoorie from Delhi in just four hours by car. However, the project requires land acquisition across 26 localities, with 2,614 houses—mostly situated along the Rispana and Bindal riverbanks—slated for demolition.

According to Banshidhar Tiwari, Vice-Chairman of the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA), preparations are already underway. The land acquisition process has commenced, with affected houses marked in red. A social impact assessment survey is expected to be completed within 15 days.

Displaced residents are expected to receive monetary compensation, as the administration currently has no formal proposal or available land bank to offer land-for-land alternatives. The district authorities are prioritizing financial compensation to expedite progress on this key infrastructure initiative.
