Naidu’s ₹126-Cr Water Vision for Chandragiri

On 13 January 2026, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for a ₹126-crore water infrastructure project in the Chandragiri constituency of Tirupati district, aimed at enhancing irrigation facilities and strengthening drinking water supply.

The project proposes to draw water from the Handri–Neeva branch canal and convey it to the Kalyani dam through a network of pipelines. Water will be lifted at the 53-km point of the canal with a head of 10 metres to fill local tanks, benefiting farmers and ensuring a dependable drinking water supply, particularly for the Tirumala hill shrine. The scheme is expected to irrigate more than 1,100 acres of agricultural land, with tanks such as Moolapalle and Kondreddy Kandriga receiving substantial quantities of water to support local farming activities.

In addition, approximately 400 million cubic feet of water will be diverted annually to the Kalyani dam, enabling drinking water supply for up to 120 days each year. The project is slated for completion within a period of two years.
