The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is set to develop over 8,000 vehicle parking spaces along the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor. Spanning 25 stations, these facilities aim to cater to the expected commuter influx, with Meerut South station offering the largest capacity of around 300 cars and 900 two-wheelers. Sarai Kale Khan station in Delhi will also feature substantial parking for 275 cars and 900 two-wheelers.
These new parking spaces will include electric vehicle charging stations, promoting clean energy and enhancing last-mile connectivity. By providing convenient parking options, NCRTC hopes to increase public transport use, reduce the number of private vehicles on the road, decrease road accidents, and cut down air pollution.
The total parking capacity along the corridor will exceed 1,600 cars and 6,500 two-wheelers. Parking will be free for the first 10 minutes for quick pick-up and drop-off, with subsequent fees based on the duration of stay. Night parking and special provisions for the specially-abled are also included.
Currently, a 34-kilometer section with eight operational stations offers parking spaces, including those for auto rickshaws. NCRTC also plans to introduce battery swapping stations to further support electric vehicle use and improve last-mile connectivity.
