New Port, New Era: The Dugarajapatnam Project Confirmed

The Andhra Pradesh government has approved a proposal authorising the AP Maritime Board to initiate steps for establishing a greenfield port and a shipbuilding cluster at Dugarajapatnam in Tirupati district.

According to a recently issued Government Order, the project will be developed under the Shipbuilding Development Scheme of the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. As part of the initiative, the AP Maritime Board will acquire 2,000 acres of land and transfer it to a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to be formed jointly with the Vizag Port Trust.

The SPV will be constituted on a 50:50 basis in accordance with the scheme’s guidelines, with equal representation from the State government and the Vizag Port Trust. The Board will also obtain the required statutory clearances and appoint a development partner for the establishment of the shipyard and allied infrastructure.
