Reaffirming its commitment to sustainable operations, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has commissioned a 306.9 KWp solar power plant at the Uzan Bazar Water Treatment Plant in Guwahati. Inaugurated on April 10, 2025, the initiative reflects NFR’s ongoing efforts to integrate renewable energy across its infrastructure.
Funded under the Environment and Housekeeping Management (EnHM) program, the plant features 558 monocrystalline solar modules of 550 Wp each. With a total inverter capacity of 315 KVA, powered by eight Luminous inverters, the system was commissioned on March 7, 2025, at a cost of ₹2.48 crore. It is expected to generate approximately 928 units of electricity per day, leading to estimated annual savings of ₹30 lakh.
“The energy produced here is routed through a robust electrical network to support critical functions at the treatment facility, including barge and jetty systems,” said Sandeep Kumar, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer of NFR. “This ensures uninterrupted power delivery, even to remote components.”
With a payback period of just eight years and an operational lifespan of 25 years, the plant is poised to deliver substantial environmental and financial benefits over the long term.
