NHPC is currently in the process of establishing a 120 MW (3x40 MW) hydroelectric project known as Rangit Stage-IV along the Rangit River, adjacent to Reshi village in the West Sikkim district of Sikkim. The project is being developed on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis.
Contractors:- Rithwik Projects Private Limited, Jal Power Corporation Limited (JPCL), PES Engineers Private Limited.
Consultant:- WAPCOS Limited, Indo Canadian Consultancy Services Limited (ICCS)
This initiative involves the implementation of a run-of-the-river scheme, featuring the construction of a 44-meter high concrete gravity dam in close proximity to Reshi. The infrastructure comprises a comprehensive 6.5 km-long water conductor system that includes key components such as intake structures, desilting basins, head race tunnels, surge shafts, penstocks, and a surface power house.
The power house is equipped with three turbine-driven generating units, each with a capacity of 40 MW. This strategic setup is designed to harness the hydroelectric potential of the Rangit River and contribute to sustainable energy generation in the region.
Jal Power Corporation has signed a concessionaire agreement for a period of 420 months for the project.
NHPC`s subsidiary JPCL awards Lot-I Civil Work contract of Rangit IV HEP.
In a major development towards implementation of 120 MW Rangit-IV project in Sikkim, NHPC's subsidiary JPCL (Jal Power Corporation Limited) awarded work for 'Construction of Balance Civil Works package: Lot I for Diversion Channel, Coffer Dams, Dam, Spillway & Stilling Basin, Intake Structure, Desilting Chambers, SFT, HRT, Surge Shaft, Pressure Shaft, Surface Power House, TRC and other associated structures' to M/s Rithwik- HIPL Joint Venture on 27.08.2021 for Rs 452 Crore.
The project is located in the West Sikkim district of Sikkim. Location map and general layout of the project are given at Exhibit-I & Exhibit-II respectively. Earlier the Government of Sikkim as a part of the national drive for the development of Hydro Potential of the country has awarded Rangit Stage-IV Hydro Electric Project to Jal Power Corporation Limited on 1st Nov. 2004.
Rangit Stage-IV Hydro Electric Project was identified as a part of the master plan evolved in 1974 for the development of hydropower potential of Teesta and Rangit rivers of Sikkim. The project is a run-of-the-river (ROR) scheme, envisaging construction of a 44m high Concrete Gravity Dam near Reshi, a 6.5km long water conductor system comprising of intake, desilting basin, headrace tunnel, surge shaft, penstock, and a surface powerhouse having an installation of 3 Francis Turbine driven Generating units of 40MW each at a rated head of 103.67m. Rangit Stage-IV Hydro Electric Project has been accorded Techno-Economic Clearance (TEC) by Central Electricity Authority (CEA) on 6th July, 2007.
