At its 63rd Executive Committee meeting, the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) approved a major sewerage management project worth ₹126.41 crore for Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The project aims to significantly enhance the city’s sanitation infrastructure and protect its water bodies from pollution.
The initiative involves the construction of 40 interception and diversion (I&D) structures and the laying of 21.20 km of I&D sewer lines to effectively reroute sewage away from local water bodies. To strengthen sewage management, the project will also include the installation of eight advanced pumping stations and trash screens in five major drains, helping to prevent solid waste and pollutants from entering waterways—ultimately improving water quality and public health.
Implemented under the design-build-operate-transfer (DBOT) model, this project offers a sustainable and technologically advanced solution for long-term environmental and urban development benefits.
Additionally, the NMCG sanctioned an ₹8 crore project to assess the environmental flow of the Ghaghara and Gomti river basins. This initiative will employ drones and on-site monitoring to gather comprehensive ecological data—including water quality, biodiversity, and human impact—under varying climatic conditions, supporting evidence-based river conservation strategies.
