The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has approved a detailed project report (DPR) for expanding metro connectivity to Noida Extension, also known as Greater Noida West, marking a significant milestone in addressing the area's longstanding demand for public transportation infrastructure. The expansion plan includes the addition of 11 stations along a 17.43-kilometer corridor extending from Noida Sector-51 station to Knowledge Park V in Greater Noida. The estimated cost of this project is Rs. 2991.60 crore, as confirmed by NMRC Managing Director Lokesh M.
The proposed expansion aims to cater to the needs of the densely populated Noida Extension, which has been lacking adequate public transport options for years, leading to community protests. One of the key features of the plan is the introduction of an interchange station at Sector-61, facilitating seamless connectivity between the existing Aqua Line and Delhi Metro's Blue Line. This interchange is expected to significantly enhance commuter convenience, providing faster and direct access between Noida, Greater Noida West, and Delhi.
Following the NMRC board's approval, the DPR will undergo further processing for clearance by the Uttar Pradesh and Indian governments. The Noida Sector-61 interchange station is poised to become a vital transportation hub, offering convenient transfer options between the Aqua Line and the Delhi Metro's Blue Line.
The proposed corridor expansion is anticipated to relieve traffic congestion along key routes like Vikas Marg and the Noida-Greater Noida Link Road, benefiting commuters in the region. Moreover, it will seamlessly integrate with the existing Aqua Line and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) network, enhancing overall metro connectivity.
In addition to the Noida Extension project, NMRC is also progressing with expansion plans on two other corridors. These include a corridor between Botanical Garden Metro Station and Noida Sector-142, as well as an extension from NMCR's Depot Station to Bodaki in Greater Noida. The DPR for the Botanical Garden-Sector 142 corridor has been submitted to the Uttar Pradesh government and awaits approval before being forwarded to the Centre for clearance.
