North Karnataka: The ₹3,500 Crore Transformation Begins

In a major boost to North Karnataka, the state Cabinet has approved a ₹3,500 crore development package aimed at addressing long-standing regional demands and accelerating economic growth.

A substantial portion of the allocation—₹1,503 crore—has been earmarked for irrigation projects, underscoring the government’s focus on strengthening agriculture in the drought-prone region. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is expected to formally announce the package in the Assembly on Friday. The Cabinet also cleared a Bill related to judicial reforms at the district level, while the matter of internal reservation in promotions was deferred for further consideration.

In addition, the Cabinet approved three packages for the transportation and processing of construction material under a public-private partnership (PPP) model within the Greater Bengaluru jurisdiction, involving an estimated investment of ₹1,715 crore.

Separately, the Cabinet gave the green light to the long-pending elevated corridor project in Belagavi. The ₹4,500 crore project, spanning 3.6 km, is aimed at easing chronic traffic congestion and improving connectivity across key junctions in the city.
