NTPC Limited, India’s largest power producer under the Ministry of Power, has successfully completed trial operations of Unit-3 (660 MW) at its North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) in Chatra district, Jharkhand. With this, the total installed capacity of NTPC has risen to 81,368 MW, including 60,266 MW from its standalone operations.
The North Karanpura STPP is a coal-based power project comprising three units of 660 MW each (3x660 MW). The successful commissioning of Unit-3 marks the full operationalization of the plant, further enhancing India’s thermal power generation capacity. In a regulatory filing, NTPC stated, “Unit-3 of the 660 MW capacity of the project has completed trial operation and is consequently included in the installed capacity of NTPC Limited.”
This development highlights NTPC’s continued efforts in strengthening the country’s base-load power infrastructure and reinforces its commitment to ensuring energy security and reliability through efficient thermal power generation.
