Odisha Forges Ahead: Rs 65,000 Crore Steel Project Takes Off

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has inaugurated the commencement of a significant steel project by the JSW Group, marking a pivotal milestone in industrial development. With an estimated investment of Rs 65,000 crore, this project heralds a new era of growth and prosperity for the region.

Located in Dhinkia Nuagaon and Gadakujanga within the Jagatsinghpur district, the project encompasses not only a robust steel manufacturing facility with an annual capacity of 13.2 million tonnes but also includes essential infrastructure such as a captive power plant and jetties with cargo-handling capabilities.

Moreover, this expansive complex will feature a cement manufacturing unit and a modern township, among other components, ensuring comprehensive development. The phased completion of this integrated facility promises to invigorate the industrial landscape of the area.

Crucially, the project's positive impact extends beyond economic growth, as it is expected to catalyze the establishment of a thriving ancillary and downstream ecosystem. Approximately 30,000 employment opportunities, both direct and indirect, are projected to emerge, providing a substantial boost to the local workforce.

Acknowledging the importance of environmental stewardship, the Industrial Development Corporation of Odisha (IDCO) has allocated 2,958 acres of land for the project. Notably, 30 percent of this land will be dedicated to the preservation of forests and water bodies, underscoring a commitment to sustainable development.

JSW Steel, the flagship business of the esteemed JSW Group, spearheads this venture, leveraging its expertise and resources to drive progress and innovation in the steel industry. With a diversified portfolio and a strong track record of success, the JSW Group's investment underscores its confidence in the region's potential for growth and prosperity.
