Patna’s first double-decker flyover, initially slated for completion in January, has been delayed to April 2025 due to land constraints linked to the Patna metro rail project, officials said. The Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited (BRPNNL) now anticipates finishing construction by March, with the flyover opening the following month.
Spanning 2.2 km along Ashok Rajpath, the flyover is designed to ease congestion between Gandhi Maidan and NIT More. The three-tier structure will improve traffic flow, while the space beneath will be repurposed for parking. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar laid the foundation stone for the ₹442 crore project in December 2021.
Officials report that 91% of civil work is complete, with remaining tasks—including expansion joints, wearing coats, noise barriers, and service roads—nearing completion. The flyover consists of two sections: a 1.5-km stretch connecting Patna College to BN College and a 2.2-km segment from Kargil Chowk to Science College. All 120 pillars are in place, and slab work is progressing steadily.
Once operational, the flyover will provide direct access to JP Ganga Path and link to a multi-storey parking facility at PMCH. The final phase of road repairs and parking development beneath the structure will follow after traffic diversion onto the new levels.
