Peelamedu Residents Push for New Railway Station Near Tidel Park

Residents of Peelamedu and surrounding areas are calling for a new railway station near Tidel Park on Hope College Road, citing better accessibility and convenience for thousands of daily commuters.

RTI activist V. Balasubramanian has formally petitioned the district collector, stressing the importance of the proposed station directly opposite Tidel Park. “A new station would directly benefit around 14,000 employees at Tidel Park and numerous visitors to the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex,” he said.

He criticized the existing Peelamedu railway station—now over 70 years old—for its poor location and lack of connectivity. “The station is about 2 km from the main bus stop, with no dedicated bus service or regular auto-rickshaws. The approach road is narrow and encroached,” he explained. He also noted the absence of signage from Avinashi Road and the limited number of train stoppages, with the station mainly used for freight services.

Support for the proposal is growing. A faculty member from a nearby college remarked, “I often commute from Tirupur and prefer trains, but the inaccessibility and safety concerns at Peelamedu station push me to take the bus instead. The new location is ideal, with good lighting, surveillance, space, and transport facilities.”

The demand highlights the urgent need to upgrade transportation infrastructure in the rapidly developing Peelamedu-Tidel Park area, aiming to better serve its growing commuter population.
