Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has fully commissioned the interstate transmission system (ISTS) for evacuating renewable energy from the Khavda Pooling Station in Gujarat. The project, titled “Transmission system for evacuation of 4.5 GW RE injection at Khavda PS under Phase-II, Part B,” was completed on 13 December 2025, with commercial operations scheduled to begin on 18 December 2025.
Developed under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) framework, the project was executed by Powergrid Khavda II-B Transmission, a wholly owned subsidiary of PGCIL. The scope of work included the construction of a 765 kV double-circuit transmission line spanning 368 circuit kilometres between Lakadia Pooling Station and Ahmedabad.
Despite delays caused by right-of-way challenges in Gujarat, the project was completed at an investment of ₹1,238 crore. The approved annual transmission charges for the scheme stand at ₹1,106.38 crore. According to PGCIL, the project forms a key part of the broader transmission infrastructure planned to support the rapid expansion of renewable energy capacity in the region.
