NTPC, India’s largest power generation company, has unveiled an ambitious roadmap to expand its installed capacity to 244 GW by 2037, involving a capital investment of nearly ₹7 lakh crore.

Currently accounting for about a quarter of India’s electricity generation through a mix of conventional and renewable sources, NTPC announced on December 17, 2025, that its operational capacity has crossed 85,000 MW. This includes the addition of 359.58 MW from new solar power projects in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Chairman and Managing Director Gurdeep Singh outlined the company’s expansion strategy during a lenders’ meeting.

As part of its phased growth plan, NTPC aims to increase its capacity to 149 GW by 2032 before reaching the 244 GW target by 2037. The roadmap also focuses on diversifying into advanced energy solutions such as energy storage systems, pumped storage projects, nuclear power, green hydrogen, and green chemicals.

Reaffirming the company’s vision, NTPC stated that it is committed to scaling capacity while leading India’s transition toward a more sustainable and resilient energy future.
