Powering Up: Mizoram Takes a ₹74-Crore Leap Toward Clean Energy

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma inaugurated a 10-MW solar power plant at Thenzawl in Serchhip district on December 20, 2025. The project, developed at a cost of ₹74.82 crore with funding support from NABARD, marks a significant addition to the state’s renewable energy capacity.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister described the project as a major milestone for Mizoram’s energy sector. He highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen power generation, including the construction of a 5-MW solar park at Sumsuih and plans to develop additional solar parks across the state. He also outlined strategies to meet rising electricity demand, such as pump storage power through the Vankal Solar Plant, expediting the 132-MW Tuivai project, and laying the foundation for the 24-MW Tuirini Hydel Electric Project next year—initiatives aimed at improving the state’s energy self-sufficiency.

Power Minister F. Rodingliana noted that Mizoram’s peak power demand has reached 160 MW and stressed the need to outsource operations of seven ageing hydropower plants to better manage maintenance costs. He added that the Thenzawl solar plant has already generated revenue of ₹3.42 crore since its commissioning.
