The Union government has sanctioned ₹744.34 crore under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme to boost civic infrastructure in four Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh. The funding will support projects focused on drinking water supply, sanitation, drainage, and internal road development.
The allocation is as follows: Ongole Municipal Corporation will receive ₹424.42 crore, Darsi ₹130.61 crore, Podili ₹126.17 crore, and Markapur ₹63.14 crore. Notably, the Markapur water supply initiative will source water from the Gottipadiya resource point. District Public Health Engineering SE Sanjay has inspected the proposed sites and submitted a feasibility report.
The Union government has mandated that the funds be used strictly for drinking water, drainage, seepage management, and provision of household tap connections.
Ongole’s ₹424.42 crore allotment is divided into two components. The first, valued at ₹381.70 crore, includes the construction of 18 overhead tanks, three water filtration plants, 535 km of pipelines, and a 10-year maintenance plan. The second component, worth ₹42.72 crore, comprises one filtration plant, 35 km of pipelines, and associated maintenance services.
