Indian Railways has announced plans to develop mega coaching terminals in 20 major cities across the country to enhance train-handling capacity and operational efficiency.
The terminals will be strategically located in high-demand cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad, particularly to manage peak travel periods and festival rush. For instance, the upcoming terminal in Ahmedabad will increase train-handling capacity from 45 to 150 trains. Similar projects, including a terminal in Surat, are planned to accommodate rising passenger traffic.
This initiative forms part of a broader effort to ease congestion, improve connectivity, and ensure smoother operations across India’s railway network.
