Refining Resilience: MoPNG Outlines New Domestic LPG Priority

Amid ongoing geopolitical disruptions impacting fuel supply and LPG availability, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) has directed oil refineries to increase LPG production, with the additional output being diverted primarily for domestic consumption.

To ensure adequate supply for households, the Ministry has prioritised domestic LPG distribution and introduced a 25-day inter-booking gap to prevent hoarding. Imported LPG meant for non-domestic use is being redirected to essential services, including hospitals and educational institutions. Meanwhile, requests for LPG supply from other non-domestic users such as restaurants, hotels, and industries will be evaluated by a three-member committee of Executive Directors from oil marketing companies (OMCs).

Earlier this week, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri addressed concerns arising from global energy disruptions, emphasising that India’s import channels remain resilient and highlighting the government’s proactive measures to protect domestic energy security.
