Ripley & Co. and Bothra Shipping Services are set to invest ₹600 crore in a significant upgrade of Berth No 5 at Haldia Dock Complex in West Bengal. This ambitious project aims to modernize the berth through advanced automation and mechanization, enhancing its capacity to handle dry bulk cargo including coal, limestone, and manganese ore.
Scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, the modernization will involve the design, build, finance, operate, and transfer (DBFOT) model under a public-private partnership (PPP). Once operational, the revamped berth will boost its cargo handling capacity to five million tonnes annually.
Ripley & Co. Stevedores and Handling, alongside Bothra Shipping Services, won the bid with the highest revenue share offer for this project. The modernization is expected to significantly improve efficiency and throughput at the Haldia Dock Complex.
The consortium anticipates receiving the letter of award (LoA) from the port authority later this month. This upgrade marks a crucial step in enhancing the port's infrastructure and boosting its operational capabilities.
