The RVNL–GPT Joint Venture has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for the construction of a new rail-cum-road bridge over the River Ganga in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
The proposed bridge will be constructed approximately 50 metres downstream of the existing Malviya Bridge near Kashi Railway Station. The scope of work includes the design and construction of a bridge comprising 8 spans of 108.5 metres and 2 spans of 103.3 metres using open web steel girders. The structure will accommodate four railway tracks on the lower deck and a six-lane roadway on the upper deck.
In addition to the main bridge, the project includes the construction of railway and road approaches as per the approved General Arrangement Drawing (GAD), along with associated overhead electrification (OHE) and general electrical works. The estimated project cost is approximately Rs 1,201.36 crore, with an execution period of 48 months.
The joint venture comprises Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) with a 60 percent stake and GPT Infra Projects Limited holding the remaining 40 percent share.
