CIMIC Group companies Sedgman and Leighton Asia have secured contracts for the development of India’s first zinc tailings recycling facility at Hindustan Zinc’s Rampura Agucha Mines in Rajasthan.
Hindustan Zinc has awarded the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts for the project, with Sedgman responsible for detailed engineering and offshore equipment procurement, while Leighton Asia will manage onshore procurement and construction. The partnership brings together Sedgman’s global expertise in minerals processing and Leighton Asia’s strong local construction capabilities.
The facility will deploy advanced processing technologies to recover residual metals such as zinc and silver from previously processed tailings, converting legacy waste into valuable resources.
The project forms a key part of Hindustan Zinc’s strategy to double its production capacity. In August, the company’s board approved an investment of up to Rs 3,823 crore for the development of a 10 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) zinc tailings recycling plant at Rampura Agucha, with a targeted completion timeline of 28 months.
