₹15 Lakh Launch: New Ponneri Cargo Terminal is Open!

The Chennai Division of Southern Railway has commissioned its second Gati-Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal (GCT) at Anuppampattu Village in Ponneri, North Chennai. Developed by Sical Multimodal and Rail Transport Ltd., the terminal is set to enhance freight infrastructure and strengthen regional connectivity.

The terminal recently handled its inaugural service—a 45-BLCA wagon rake operated by Sical Multimodal and Rail Transport Ltd.—which traveled 1,389 km to the Green Field Private Freight Terminal (GFMK) under South Eastern Railway, generating freight revenue of ₹15 lakh.

Capable of handling a diverse range of commodities such as containers, food grains, cement, iron, and steel, the Ponneri terminal is strategically located to support growing logistics demands. With an expected initial throughput of 21 rakes per month, the facility will further reinforce the Chennai Division’s role as a major logistics hub in the region.
