Bihar authorities have successfully energised a 132 kV transmission line and a 100 MVA transformer at the Kajra Solar Power Plant in Lakhisarai district, marking a major milestone in one of India’s largest battery-backed solar projects.
Operated by the Bihar State Power Generation Company (BSPGCL) and Bihar State Power Transmission Company (BSPTCL), this development enables power from the plant to be fed into the state grid, providing continuous and reliable electricity to local consumers. The plant’s integrated battery storage system, capable of supplying electricity for four to five hours during peak demand without sunlight, is expected to improve grid stability and reduce outages.
The project’s first phase, featuring a 185 MW solar array and 254 MWh of storage, involved an investment of ₹1,810 crore. The second phase, adding 116 MW of solar capacity and 241 MWh of storage, is scheduled for completion by January 2027. Once fully operational, the Kajra Solar Power Plant will have a total generation capacity of 301 MW and energy storage of 495 MWh.
