₹440 Cr Sanctioned for Nimpura-Midnapur 3rd Line Project

In a major push toward infrastructure expansion, Indian Railways has sanctioned the construction of a 14.52-km third line between Nimpura West Outer Cabin and Midnapur on the South Eastern Railway (SER) at an estimated cost of ₹440 crore.

Falling under the High Utilisation Network (HUN-2), the corridor currently operates above its design limit at 115.71% capacity utilisation. The addition of the third line will address severe operational pressure, providing an additional 3.52 MTPA in freight capacity over the existing 23.80 MTPA baseline. This will ensure faster transit for essential bulk goods, including coal, steel, clinker, and foodgrains, while simultaneously improving punctuality for passenger services across the region.
