RVNL Powers Up Southern Railway with ₹145 Cr. Traction Project

Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) has secured a Letter of Award (LoA) from Southern Railway for a contract worth ₹145.35 crore. The project involves the design, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of Scott-connected traction substations equipped with power quality compensation systems, along with associated switching posts (SP/SSP) for a 2x25 kV traction feeding system.

Additionally, the scope includes the installation of SCADA and automatic fault locator (AFL) systems for the Jolarpettai Junction–Salem Junction (JTJ–SA) section of the Salem Division. This initiative supports Southern Railway’s Mission 3000 MT programme aimed at boosting freight capacity.

The contract carries a completion timeline of 18 months and emphasizes domestic design and execution. RVNL will be responsible for delivering the substations in compliance with all technical and safety standards outlined in the tender, strengthening the power infrastructure required for efficient railway operations.
