SCCL Signs 800MW Power Plant Deal with BHEL

The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) signed an agreement with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) on March 11, 2025, for the construction of an 800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant at Pegadapalli in Mancherial district.

The new plant will be built adjacent to the existing 2×600 MW facility and is expected to be completed within 40 months, although the official contract period allows for 48 months. BHEL will supply key components, including boilers, turbines, and generators, while also handling civil works. SCCL has urged an accelerated timeline, permitting only minor works beyond the 40-month period.

The agreement was signed in the presence of SCCL Directors D. Satyanarayana Rao, L.V. Suyanarayana, and K. Venkateshwarlu, along with BHEL officials Parthasarathi Das and Jogesh Gulati. The existing 1,200 MW facility, commissioned in 2016, has been a major contributor to the region’s power supply, generating Rs 450 crore in profit and delivering approximately 70 million units of electricity to Telangana. It has also consistently recorded the highest plant load factor (PLF) among public sector thermal power projects in India.
