The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), a Navratna CPSU under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), has received Government Orders from the Andhra Pradesh government to develop a 1,200 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Nandyal and a 50 MW hybrid solar project.
The exchange took place during the Andhra Pradesh Partnership Summit 2025 in Visakhapatnam. SECI was designated as the implementing agency for the BESS project by the Ministry of Power on January 23, and final approval was granted by SECI Board Chairman Santosh Kumar Sarangi on October 22. Both the BESS and the hybrid solar project will be implemented under the CAPEX model, with SECI responsible for full funding and execution.
Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar formally handed over the Government Orders to SECI officials in the presence of senior state representatives. MNRE noted that these projects represent a significant step toward expanding renewable energy storage capacity and advancing India’s transition to a resilient, storage-enabled green power grid.
