Silicon Heartland: Uttar Pradesh’s ₹30,000 Crore Data Revolution

The Uttar Pradesh government has set a target to develop eight modern data centre parks with a combined capacity of 900 MW under its Data Centre Policy, which was first introduced in January 2021.

The policy is designed to attract private investment in data centre infrastructure and strengthen the state’s digital ecosystem. Initially, it envisioned three data centre parks with a total capacity of 250 MW, a target that was successfully achieved within the first year of implementation.

Buoyed by this early success, the government subsequently revised the policy to expand both the scale of development and investment potential, now estimated at around ₹30,000 crore. To date, proposals worth approximately ₹21,343 crore have been approved, covering six data centre parks and two smaller units of less than 40 MW each. Of these, seven projects are already operational.

Officials said the initiative will significantly enhance Uttar Pradesh’s digital capabilities, noting that the strengthened Data Centre Policy offers a clear, investor-friendly roadmap for accelerating investment and expanding the state’s technology infrastructure.
