The 36km Leap: Raxaul–Haldia Land Acquisition Underway

The Raxaul–Haldia Greenfield Expressway project has entered a critical phase, with authorities beginning the land acquisition process across the district.

The proposed high-speed corridor will span nearly 36 km within the district and pass through 72 villages across five blocks. District officials have completed the preparatory work and submitted the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) report to the National Highways Authority of India, outlining the affected villages, farmers and landholders, as well as the extent of land required for the project. With the assessment now finalised, the next stage will involve determining compensation for those impacted.

Planned as a 37-metre-wide greenfield expressway, the route will provide a direct link between Raxaul near the Nepal border and Haldia, a key industrial hub and port city in West Bengal.

Once operational, the expressway is expected to substantially cut travel time between Bihar, Kolkata and Haldia Port, while supporting trade, logistics, agriculture and local industry. Officials said the land acquisition process will be conducted transparently in accordance with legal provisions, with compensation and eligible benefits provided as per government norms. Construction is expected to commence after the completion of acquisition formalities.
