Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has inaugurated the Farmers’ Training and Common Facility Centre for Agro Processing (FT-CFC) at Methagal village in Koppal, Karnataka.
As the first such facility in the Kalyana Karnataka region, the FT-CFC aims to boost rural livelihoods by promoting value addition, reducing post-harvest losses, and creating sustainable income opportunities for farmers. Developed with a funding of ₹5.5 crore under the MPLAD scheme, and supported by NABARD and the Government of India, the centre is projected to generate an annual turnover of ₹12.58 crore.
The facility is equipped to process a range of crops including mango, papaya, guava, and ginger. In addition to processing infrastructure, it offers training in food processing, packaging, branding, and digital marketing through collaborations with Sahyadri Farms and the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) Raichur.
This initiative forms part of a broader effort to strengthen agro-processing across Karnataka, empowering farmers and fostering inclusive rural economic development.
