SJVN has released ₹269.97 crore as land compensation for the development of its upcoming 3,097 MW Etalin Hydroelectric Project in Dibang Valley, Arunachal Pradesh.
The Etalin project—comprising the construction of two dams on the Dri and Talo (Tangon) rivers, along with an underground powerhouse—is scheduled for commissioning by December 2033. The release of compensation funds marks a significant milestone in progressing large-scale hydropower infrastructure in the region.
During a project review meeting, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu praised the collaborative efforts and reiterated the state government’s commitment to facilitating the project, including expediting necessary statutory clearances. He stated, “SJVN is committed to the inclusive development of Arunachal Pradesh. The release of this compensation is a crucial step in recognizing the rights of local communities while advancing national infrastructure.”
The Etalin project is part of a broader partnership between SJVN and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed in August 2023 includes this project and four additional hydropower ventures, collectively accounting for a total installed capacity of 5,097 MW.
