Smart Moves in AP: EESL-APEPDCL Partnership Expands

Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. (EESL) and the Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company (APEPDCL) have renewed their partnership to advance energy efficiency, clean energy adoption, and sustainable mobility in Andhra Pradesh.

In a recent review meeting, both entities evaluated progress under the UJALA scheme and outlined upcoming joint initiatives. Andhra Pradesh has recorded annual energy savings of 2,863 million kWh—accounting for 6% of India’s total savings via EESL—translating into ₹1,145 crore in cost savings and a 573 MW reduction in peak demand.

The state has installed over 30 lakh LED streetlights, with the "Vizag Model", developed post-Cyclone Hudhud, now being replicated across major Indian cities and gaining international recognition for its scalable and resilient approach.

Looking ahead, the partnership will focus on:

Expanding electric vehicle adoption under the National E-Mobility Programme, Developing EV charging infrastructure, Installing rooftop solar systems on government buildings, Rolling out smart meters under the Smart Meter National Programme

Promoting energy-efficient appliances across residential and institutional sectors

This renewed collaboration reinforces Andhra Pradesh’s leadership in sustainable energy transformation and supports India’s broader clean energy and net-zero goals.
