Passengers traveling from Hyderabad and Secunderabad to key destinations like New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Vijayawada can soon expect faster and more efficient train journeys, as the government has approved eight Rail-Over-Rail (ROR) projects under the South Central Railway (SCR) zone.
With a total investment of ₹6,584 crore, the ROR flyovers aim to decongest high-density routes—such as Hyderabad–New Delhi, Secunderabad–Guntur, Kacheguda–Bengaluru, and Warangal–Vijayawada—by diverting freight trains away from passenger tracks. Currently, cross-movement at level junctions forces one direction of traffic to halt, leading to delays and reduced efficiency.
The new ROR infrastructure will enable simultaneous reception and dispatch of trains, significantly improving average train speeds, operational fluidity, and passenger convenience. SCR already operates 11 ROR structures, including six within the Hyderabad region.
In addition, the plan includes two new bypass lines valued at over ₹1,950 crore, developed under the Outer Ring Rail and Warangal corridor initiatives. A key highlight is a 37-km bypass featuring RORs at Nashkal and Chintalapalli, which will streamline express services toward New Delhi. Another critical ROR at Pagidipalli is expected to cut delays of 20–30 minutes for trains heading to Chennai, Guntur, and Vijayawada.
