The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) has made a remarkable turnaround, increasing its capacity utilisation from 25% in September 2024 to 79% by September 2025—a key milestone in its ongoing revival.
At a review meeting held at the State Secretariat, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu attributed the progress to the coordinated efforts of the Central and State governments, plant management, and workers. The session, attended by RINL CMD Ajit Kumar Saxena and Ministry of Steel Joint Secretary Abhijit Narendra, evaluated revival strategies and progress made over the past year.
A pivotal factor in the plant’s recovery was the ₹11,440 crore financial package secured by the CM from the Centre, with a substantial portion already disbursed. These funds have supported critical recovery and operational initiatives.
Commending the progress, the CM set a new target of 92.5% capacity utilisation by the end of Q3, and directed monthly and quarterly performance reviews to maintain momentum. He also reaffirmed the State's full support for the plant’s long-term growth and sustainability.
