Bhuj Grid Boost: PGCIL's ₹1,015 Crore Renewable Energy Fix.

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) is pursuing a transmission licence from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) for a consolidated ₹1,015 crore interstate transmission system (ISTS) project under the regulated tariff mechanism (RTM) framework.

The project, titled “Augmentation of Transformation Capacity at Bhuj-II PS (GIS) & Provision of ICT Augmentation and Bus Reactor at Bhuj-II PS,” merges two earlier schemes that did not attract bids under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route. It will be executed by Powergrid Bhuj Transmission Ltd, a TBCB subsidiary of PGCIL.

The CERC has issued an interim licence and scheduled the final hearing for October 16, 2025, while inviting public suggestions or objections by October 9.

Classified as critical for the evacuation of renewable energy from Gujarat’s Bhuj region, the project has a 21-month completion timeline and received CTUIL approvals in February and March 2025 for its respective components.
