Budhamara-Chakulia Rail: Land Acquisition Begins

Mayurbhanj Collector Hemakanta Say has directed the tehsildars of Sarashkana and Bangiriposi to initiate land acquisition within one month for the proposed broad-gauge railway line between Budhamara and Chakulia.

The 59.96 km railway project, of which 16.20 km falls within Mayurbhanj district, will impact 23 villages across the two tehsils. A preliminary gazette notification has already been issued. To facilitate timely compensation, the district administration will undertake suo motu corrections to Column-2 of the Record of Rights (RoR) in accordance with revenue laws.

The Collector urged residents to support the process, highlighting the project’s significance for regional development and enhanced railway connectivity.

Estimated at ₹1,639 crore, the Budhamara–Chakulia line is one of three new railway projects in north Odisha, for which President Droupadi Murmu laid foundation stones on December 7, 2024. The other two include:

Badampahar–Keonjhar (82.06 km, ₹2,107 crore), Bangiriposi–Gorumahisani (85.6 km, ₹2,549 crore)
