Strategic Roads: BRO's Push for Connectivity in Arunachal

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is working towards completing the double-laning of a strategically important road in Arunachal Pradesh by March 2026. According to S.C. Looniya, Chief Engineer of BRO’s Project Brahmank, the 32-km Pene-Tato stretch of the Aalo-Mechuka road is on track for completion, despite some initial delays.

Looniya attributed the delays to land acquisition challenges but emphasized that the BRO is prioritizing the road's formation-cutting to ensure uninterrupted travel for commuters. "We are committed to completing the stretch with all required parameters, ensuring safe, secure, and satisfactory road connectivity," he said.

Other Key Projects

Looniya also provided updates on several other road and infrastructure projects in the region:

Tato-Mechuka Stretch: The construction of 14 bridges along this stretch has been awarded, and work is progressing through various stages of completion.

Yarlung-Trijunction Road: Construction of this 12-km road, including a 140-foot steel modular bridge, has commenced and is expected to be completed within two years.

Yarlung-Lamang Road: The 16-km road is already completed and operational.

Lamang-Lola Road: The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this 14-km road is currently under preparation.

Migging-Tuting Road: This road is nearing completion, with only 15 km of formation-cutting left. Surfacing work is planned for this year, and if weather conditions permit, the project will be completed by March 2026.

These projects, part of the National Highway Single Lane (NHSL) program, are crucial for enhancing connectivity for military forces stationed in the forward areas of Arunachal Pradesh.

Looniya also mentioned that the BRO is open to taking over the maintenance of NH-13, the Akajan-Likabali-Bam road. This road, built by the BRO in the 1960s and handed over to NHIDCL for double-laning in 2015, has deteriorated in several sections, causing frustration among locals. The BRO’s involvement would address these concerns and benefit personnel stationed in the area.
