Sun Pharma Goes Green in Assam with New ₹500 Cr Plant

Sun Pharmaceutical has announced an investment of ₹500 crore to set up a new manufacturing facility in Assam, a move expected to create more than 500 direct jobs.

The project will be developed in two phases and will focus on drug formulation manufacturing to cater primarily to domestic demand. Chief Secretary Ravi Kota confirmed the investment following a meeting with senior representatives of the pharmaceutical major. He noted that critical project requirements—including land availability, water and power supply, connectivity, and access to skilled manpower—were discussed in detail.

Sun Pharmaceutical also emphasised its commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices, with plans to prioritise efficient water usage, adoption of renewable energy, and responsible waste management. These measures are in line with environmental and regulatory standards and aim to ensure the long-term sustainability of the facility.
