The Andhra Pradesh government has unveiled a comprehensive initiative to provide a permanent and safe drinking water supply to Guntur city and its newly merged surrounding areas.
Union Minister of State Pemmasani Chandrasekhar stated that establishing an integrated and sustainable water system was a key pre-election commitment and continues to be a top priority. Along with Guntur West MLA Galla Madhavi, he laid the foundation stones for new elevated service reservoirs at AT Agraharam and Udyoga Nagar, as well as an urban primary health centre.
The government has allocated ₹35 crore for the reconstruction of seven old and dilapidated water storage tanks, with additional works scheduled to commence soon. To further strengthen water supply, the high-capacity pumping system at Undavalli is being upgraded at a cost of ₹3.28 crore.
Addressing long-term water needs, a ₹370 crore AMRUT project will bring Krishna River water directly to Guntur, ensuring reliable water security for decades. All projects are being funded through GMC general funds, alongside ongoing infrastructure development works worth nearly ₹500 crore.
