Tata Power Boosts Solar Cell Production in Tamil Nadu

TP Solar, a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL), has started commercial production of solar cells at its Tirunelveli facility in Tamil Nadu. This facility is the largest single-location solar cell and module plant in India, with an initial production capacity of two GW. The production of solar modules had already commenced earlier this year, contributing to India’s clean energy goals and reducing dependence on imports.

The current solar cell production capacity of two GW will soon be augmented, with an additional two GW to be added in the coming weeks. This expansion aims to meet the increasing demand for domestically produced solar components, especially for large-scale projects.

The Tirunelveli plant, which began module production in October 2023, has already produced 1,250 MW of solar modules. The full production capacity of 4.3 GW for both cells and modules is expected to be reached shortly.

This news is related to the operational expansion of Tata Power’s manufacturing capabilities and does not involve a contract or tender.
