Reinforcing its commitment to the Musi River Rejuvenation Project, the Telangana government on August 23, 2025, released ₹375 crore to the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL) for implementation.
On the same day, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu stated there would be “no going back” on the project, emphasizing its importance for ecological restoration, sustainable urban growth, and economic revitalization.
The project envisions a comprehensive transformation of the Musi River ecosystem, featuring:
Pedestrian-friendly zones, Heritage conservation areas, Cycle tracks and green spaces, Hawker zones, Bridges and riverfront promenades, Tourist and sports amenities, Parking, retail, and hospitality infrastructure
In the 2025–26 fiscal year, the government allocated ₹1,500 crore for MRDCL, of which ₹750 crore has now been disbursed in two tranches.
Highlighting Telangana’s progress in urban greenery, water conservation, and carbon-neutral growth, Minister Sridhar Babu called for continued emphasis on climate-resilient urban planning as a pillar of the state’s development strategy.
