The Automated Horizon: Haldia’s New Era of Bulk Handling

The Haldia Bulk Terminal, developed by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, is India’s first fully automated dry bulk handling facility, equipped with advanced material handling systems supplied by GENMA.

The project includes two high-performance mobile harbour cranes (MHCs) that serve as the core equipment for ship-to-shore operations. These cranes support efficient vessel unloading with high reliability, low energy consumption, and precise control, ensuring smooth transfer of cargo into automated conveyor systems, stockyards, and rail loading infrastructure.

Recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the terminal marks a significant advancement in India’s port modernisation efforts and aligns with the objectives of the Sagarmala Programme and the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. The facility is designed to reduce logistics costs, improve cargo handling efficiency, and enable safer and cleaner port operations by minimising spillage and eliminating jetty stockpiling.

GENMA’s involvement highlights its role in providing customised material handling solutions for large-scale infrastructure projects and reflects increasing global collaboration in India’s port and logistics sector.
