The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is currently undertaking the concretisation of 677 roads across Mumbai, covering a total stretch of 308 km, according to data from the civic dashboard as of December 2.
Launched in October as part of a major infrastructure upgrade, the project aims to enhance the quality and longevity of the city’s road network. BMC officials noted that new road works will begin only after substantial progress is achieved on the ongoing stretches.
Out of the 2,121 roads included in the civic body’s extensive concretisation plan, 790 have been completed and 575 are partially finished, while work on 756 roads is yet to commence. Abhijit Bangar, Additional Municipal Commissioner and head of the BMC’s road department, said, “Concretisation works have been ongoing since October across the city. Many of the partially completed roads are now being prioritised and should see significant progress by January, after which new road works will be taken up.”
