The Blue Flame Spreads: Patna’s Growing Gas Network

Patna is steadily expanding its piped natural gas (PNG) network, adding new distribution regulating stations (DRS) to strengthen the city’s infrastructure.

Currently, DRS units at AIIMS, BIT, IGIMS, Gardanibagh, Bypass Sipara, and Fatuha support the network, each capable of supplying gas to 30,000–35,000 households. Around 28,000 homes in Patna currently receive PNG, benefiting over 50,000 residents. Plans are also underway to extend PNG supply to industrial units in Fatuha, with pipeline installation and inspections in progress. Authorities are awaiting the final license to commence regular supply, expected next month, providing businesses with a more economical alternative to LPG cylinders and diesel, which have driven up operational costs.

Additionally, GAIL officials reported that a six-inch pipeline is being installed from Naubatpur to Bihta, accompanied by a new DRS for industrial connections, further expanding PNG access across the region.
