Chinese firms GAMI and CHALCO are competing to partner with India's National Aluminium Company (NALCO) on a major ₹17,000-crore smelter project. This interest comes amidst a recent thaw in relations between India and China.
The two Chinese companies are up against Dubai Aluminium Company (DUBAL) and Russian giant RUSAL, all of which are vying to supply the technology for the smelter.
The search for a new partner follows the collapse of negotiations with the previous contender, Rio Tinto.
