The Grand Corridor: Bihar’s 2026 Infrastructure Makeover

Bihar is poised for a major transformation in its road infrastructure with the development of its first six-lane national highway, along with multiple expressway and access-controlled highway projects.

The Varanasi–Aurangabad six-lane highway, currently in its final stage of construction, is expected to be completed by 2026 and will significantly improve connectivity between Bihar and Delhi via Uttar Pradesh. Another important project, the Aurangabad–Chorda road, is nearing completion and will strengthen road links with Jharkhand and West Bengal.

The state’s first access-controlled highway, on the Amas–Darbhanga corridor, is also scheduled for completion by 2026. In addition, several two-lane road projects—including Chakia–Bairgania and Parsarma–Saharsa–Mahishi—are expected to be completed this year.

The Patna–Purnia corridor has been accorded expressway status, while construction is progressing on major corridors such as Gorakhpur–Siliguri, Raxaul–Haldia, and Buxar–Bhagalpur. With several projects slated for completion by 2026, these initiatives are set to substantially enhance connectivity and support economic growth across Bihar.
