Think Gas Fuels India's Future with ₹10,000 Crore Expansion

THINK Gas has unveiled plans to become India’s leading city gas distribution (CGD) company within five years, with a projected investment of ₹10,000 crore to drive nationwide expansion.

According to Director and COO Chiradeep Datta, the company’s proposed merger with AG&P Pratham, announced in February 2025, is expected to be finalized by mid-2026. Following the merger, THINK Gas aims to become the second-largest CGD player in India, surpassing Indraprastha Gas, Mahanagar Gas, and Gujarat Gas, and trailing only Adani Total Gas. The company has already invested ₹8,000 crore and is currently awaiting regulatory approval from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB).

In addition to its core CGD business, THINK Gas is diversifying into liquefied natural gas (LNG) sales, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, and retail fuel outlets for petrol and diesel. The merged entity is backed by I Squared Capital, and includes strategic partners such as Osaka Gas and Sumitomo Corporation.

Currently, THINK Gas serves 550,000 households and operates 500 fuel stations. It targets reaching 1 million homes and expanding to 1,500 outlets. Its 17,000 inch-km steel pipeline network spans 19 geographical areas, with plans to grow to 24,000 inch-km, supporting over 2,000 CNG stations and a coverage area of 324,000 sq. km, reaching an estimated 180 million people.

Technology partner ABB India has enabled cloud-based automation, significantly enhancing operational efficiency across its pipeline and retail infrastructure.
